~Gem Mining~

PA206014

On Monday, our homeschool group went on a field trip to the Gem Mine!

It was such a fabulous day!

PA205965

Chelsi found several pretty stones...in various sizes.

PA206018

This is one of many things my girl loves to do!

PA206020

She found rose quartz, tiger's eye, green tourmaline, jade, emeralds, garnets, amethyst, peridot, smokey quartz, champagne quartz, morganite, TV stone, pyrite, and others that we are unsure of the correct names.

PA206031

The adventure begins with this bucket of "stuff". Next, the sifting begins, as the water in the flumes rinses away the sand......and reveals such beautiful treasures!

PA205964

It was so much fun to listen to the shouts when one of the children made a "Great discovery"!
Then we'd all look to see what fabulous gem stone they had discovered!

PA205962

PA206044

It always amazes me to see the dirty bucket of sandy rocks....then after rinsing them in the water.....these little beauties appear!

PA206041

So colorful!

PA206033

The day was full of sunshine and crisp autumn air!
After gem mining, we had a late lunch/ early dinner with sweet friends. Then we all went to see a movie together!
The daddies and daughters saw Beverly H*lls Chihu*hua and we, Mommies saw Nights in Ro*danthe! *(Spoiler...if you go to see Nights...take your tissues!!!) Oh boy! It is great....but oh what an emotional roller coaster ride this movie is!!!!
This had to be one of the best Mondays in a long time!

Wow, you got some great gems. We do god mining (not near as rewarding!!) And what a great opportunity to talk about how God sifts US! And we are like the dirty bucket of sandy rocks before knowing HIM and He transforms us into something beautiful!

Denise,

This looks like so much fun! You and your daughter are both gorgeous. I love seeing the collection of your daughter. I wish I had detailed every little thing about each of my kids when they were growing up. It is all so precious to us and later we wish we could recall so much more than we do!
The name Tucked Inside My Heart is just right!

Hi Denise

I loved the pictures of this field trip! I miss those days of home schooling field trips.....my son is a senior this year, and he's just not into that any more.

You and your daughter look like twins! I can't figure out how old she is. I'm sure she looks older than she actually is...

You got some beautiful gems. My hubby is a geologist and he loves this kind of stuff. We did this in VA once but it was 900 degrees and we had Kate (she was 1). It was not so fun.

My boys would love this. I have to find something like this closer to my home. I love the music you have playing. I used to have the same song. George Winston is great.

What a fun thing to do. I had no idea you could find such beautiful stones.
I read that book (nights in ...) it was a tear jerker, but good.
